I Am Not

I usually have a personal rule. That I will not explain my poetry. That it will stand on its own legs, and speak to people however they see it. Because let's face it. Art is one of those mediums, in which the viewer is just as responsible for placement of meaning, as the poet is. We all see through different eyes, and take our own messages from a piece. Be it a poem, a painting, a sculpture.

I created this for myself, for catharsis. But each of you that look at it, will take away something entirely different.

That said, I'm breaking my rule, just a touch.

The name of the poem is "I am Not." However, in a way, it's meaning is more what "I am". I feel very exposed in this piece. By the choice to include pictures of myself. I usually limit such to artistic half captures. Just my eyes, or just my lips, for example. But I felt it necessary toward the end product.

I have chosen a variety of them for a reason. The main sentiment is that "I am not that different." Though clearly throughout the array of them I am. Different emotions, different styles. However, in the end...it is our differences as individuals that make us most like each other. My differences combined that make me what I am...and am not.

If some of my choices, make you think of me poorly. I'm afraid that is your own right.

It is easier to dismiss a voice. Than to hear it out.
